SELECTIVE PRESS REVIEW

"O AGON"

“The staging of the opera LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR by the Cyprus Lyrical Stage following a 40-year silence in this specific musical field, constitutes a unique artistic fact”

"APOGEVMATINI" – PAVLOS LΕΜESIS

“The performance of the opera LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR by the Cyprus Lyrical Stage, given the current circumstances in Cyprus, is an achievement.  The person who had the vision, and gave all of his knowledge, experience and talent for the stage performance and musical interpretation of the whole opera, is our fellow citizen Ioli Mousteri.  She has the inspiration, the costume designs, the preparation and teaching of the choir and of the rest of the roles.  Ioli Mousteri, has levelled the town’s prestige and Ioli Mousteri has vindicated her fame that she is not only a teacher but she is also the religious follower of classical melody that touches the audience whether it is her interpretation with her beautiful dramatic tones and delicate vocal ondulances or the choir or her associates.  The famous baritone Kyros Patsalides was indeed excellent.  We congratulate from heart all the contributors.  The choir, the orchestra, the conductor Christos Markou, the choreographer Nadia Nicolaides and the young ballet dancers who danced with grace.  The stage scenery of Maximos Christou, Nikos Kokkinis and Kostas Konstantinides were impressive.  It has been since the time of Solonas Michaelides and Dimitri Tirimou from Larnaca that a whole opera was staged.

"I SIMERINI" – NIKOS TSAOUSIS, Solist of the Athens Lyrical Stage.

“……..The stage scenery, costumes were richly made, the choir and the orchestra worked conscientiously, the voices were excellent and all these at the private initiative and contribution of people who participated but mainly the passion for “ART” of the founder of the  Cyprus Lyrical Stage, Ioli Mousteri who embarked upon the construction of melodramatic theatre 10 years ago and following her successful appearances, she managed to stage a whole performance of “Loucia Di Lammermour” using her own resources without any subsidies……….At the Limassol Lyrical Stage I was met with a sense of creative, full of life and artistic sensation that could very well be the object of envy by organised theatres………………..”

"O FILELEPHTEROS" – ANDREAS KARAYIAN

"Well done Limassol………The Cyprus Lyrical Stage has accomplished an immense achievement.  It is unheard of and remarkable that the responsibility that should have been born by the State, that is to establish a professional opera  in Cyprus, to be undertaken instead by private people and especially with such a passion……….constituted a serious and dignified presentation with musical moments and with style.  The rich presentation with the stage scenery and the costumes and the sensitivity of the orchestra under the conduct of Christos Markou who did a great job, attributed to all these.  Well done to Ioli Mousteri for her presence and for all the work she has done.  Well done to all those who contributed………"

"PROINA NEA" - MARY PIERIDOU

"This is a unique performance in the opera field in our island.  Unique with regard to the high professional level of the performance, were also the excellent talents that played in the opera, the beautiful stage scenery, and the impressive historical costumes.  Ioli Mousteri was at the centre of attraction with her classy presence and her impeccable interpretation……"

"XARAVGI" – KYRIAKOS ANDREOU

"The Limassol Lyrical Stage – Cyprus, honours the town and Cyprus in general by staging a whole opera and by undertaking the difficult if not impossible task of presenting a complete operatic work in Cyprus."
